Ionia High School earns high marks for scholastics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Since its completion in 1989, students have made the Ionia Educational Center the "Home of Bulldog Pride". Winner of national recognition for design, the Educational Center is a land of opportunity which offers its 900 students the best possible opportunity for academic and vocational training to insure proficiency and employability for the 21st century.
Within the confines of our beautiful educational center on Tuttle Road is:
- A swimming pool owned by the school district and operated by the YMCA staff trained in aquatics;
- A county vocational school, The Ionia County Career Center, which supplies training for Ionia County's juniors and seniors in such diverse and fully operational labs as an auto repair shop and a full service restaurant for public use;
- Ionia High School classrooms and large gymnasium hosting many state tournament contests;
School improvement is ongoing at Ionia High School, fully accredited by North Central since 1906. Supplementing the basics is a broad spectrum of elective courses, including programs in art, language, and robotics. Marching band, concert band, symphonic band, jazz band and steel drum band are offered as well as choir, chorale, and vocal ensemble. Students expand these offerings by enrolling in ICCC programs.
The school spirit which energizes IHS is evident in extracurricular as well as athletics. Many of lonia's students participate in extracurricular activities, choosing from debate, forensics, Spanish Club, Science Olympiad, SADD, FFA, Quiz Bowl, Theatre, Student Council, National Honor Society and more. IHS athletic teams perform well in boys and girls basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, cross country, swimming, soccer, and bowling, boys baseball, football and wrestling and girls softball, volleyball, cheer, dance and power lifting.
Our high school, updated with extensive computer technology in 2008, consistently produces National Merit Scholars, successful students in higher education, and productive citizens in the world of work. Our community has provided well for our students and our students are returning the favor.
