Special Education at IPS
At Ionia Public Schools (IPS), we believe that every student deserves an equitable and inclusive educational experience individualized to their unique needs within their least restrictive environment (LRE). Our Special Education department is dedicated to providing comprehensive services, resources, and support to students, families, and staff across our district.
We are committed to creating a learning environment where students with disabilities can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for success in school and beyond.
What We Offer
Our Special Education services are designed in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the State of Michigan (MARSE) regulations. We provide a continuum of services to meet the diverse needs of our students, including:
- Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Tailored plans developed collaboratively with families to address specific learning goals.
- Highly Qualified Staff: Dedicated special education teachers, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, school social workers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other related service providers.
- A Continuum of Services: From support within the general education classroom to specialized instruction and access to specialized programming through Ionia County Intermediate School District (ICISD), IPS provides a full continuum of programs and services to eligible students.
- Transition Services: Support for high school students preparing for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.
- Early Childhood Special Education: Services for children aged 3-5 to support developmental readiness for school. For eligible children ages 0-3, Early On services are made available through ICISD.
